Paul Marchese

Paul Marchese has been coaching Saratoga Winter Club skaters since 2002 after working with local skaters and coaching development camps in
Lake placid since 1994.

  • Olympic Team Coach/Technical Specialist 2002, 2006, 2010
  • 2010 China Short Track Team coach (four gold medals)
  • 2010 Coached Olympians Trevor Marsicano and Jonathon Kuck (silver medals each)
  • Coach/Technical Specialist for US Team preparing for Sochi 2014
For 30 years, Paul Marchese has been involved in speedskating as a competitor, coach and skate builder. He is an equipment perfectionist, an in-demand coach and winning boot maker. He operates Marchese Racing, one of skating's premier boot and equipment design and manufacturing companies.

Olympic skaters from many countries have won 84 medals (so far!) skating on Paul Marchese's skates.

As John Dimon say, "Paul can win any race on ice or inlines in his age class. A superb technician, he backs his skating talent up with power and speed."

Amy Peterson Peck

Amy is a 5-time Olympian with 3 Olympic medals.
She represented the USA as the flag bearer at the 2002 Olympic Winter Games.



  • Member of 16 World Teams
  • U.S. Short Track Champion nine times (1993-96, 1998-2002)
  • FIVE TIME Olympian (1988, 1992, 1994, 1998, and 2002)
  • Three Olympic medals (relay, silver, 1992; 500m and relay, bronze, 1994)
  • Member of the American record holding 3000-meter relay team (4:20.730, Salt Lake City, Utah, 2/20/02).
  • U.S. Speedskating Athlete of the Year (1998 and 1999)
  •  U.S. flag bearer at the Opening Ceremonies at the 2002 Olympics in Salt Lake. 
  • Named USS Northern Regional Coach, producing 2 Junior World Team members in three years.
  • named U.S. Speedskating Development Coach of the Year in 2005 
  • Amy is a member of the Speedskating Hall of Fame.

Pat Maxwell

Pat Maxwell is a national and North American champion skater. 

But far surpassing his record as a competitor, is his enviable record as a short track coach. Pat has coached the Saratoga Winter Club since 1976 and is noted for his innovative approach to teaching and development. He began informally coaching the Saratoga Winter Club skaters in 1976 and since then has helped many achieve national and international success.
  • North American Short Track Champion, 1971
  • Placed 5th overall at the 1st World Short Track Speed Skating Championships in 1976
  • National Short Track co-champion, 1983
  • National Team Coach 1983-1998 
  • Head Olympic Team Coach 1988, 1992
  • Olympic Team Coach 1994, 1998, 2002
  • Has conducted developmental camps and over 100 training seminars since his retirement from competition.
  • Pat is a member of the Speedskating Hall of Fame.


The Saratoga Winter Club is fortunate to have several other coaches regularly working with our skaters in addition to our 3 main coaches. We are proud to have skilled and appropriate coaching for all skill and age levels.
