Learn-to-Speedskate Program

Here's what you'll need to skate:

Skates - you can use hockey skates but you'll get a much better feel for the sport if you use actual speed skating skates. The blade is flatter and longer and you skate quite differently on it than hockey skates. We have many sizes available to borrow--please ask!

Proper Safety Equipment (mandatory)
Helmet (your own bicycle or hockey helmet is OK--we probably won't have a helmet available to borrow)
Gloves
Shin Guards and Knee Pads (soccer style is fine)
Neck Guard (we can lend you one for the evening)

Clothing
When you are trying out speedskating don't feel like you have to wear any special skating clothes--yes, adults too. Just come in something that you are comfortable moving in and that will keep you warm--no short sleeves! Take a look at the pictures of our skaters and you will see quite a variety of clothing--from blue jeans to the most sophisticated skin suits.

And Finally...
Complete and sign the Skater Waiver.

If you decide to continue skating, you must pay dues and a a pro-rated amount for the remaining fees. Rental skate fees will also be pro-rated. You must also register as a US Speedskating member.
